Achintya Kumar Sengupta

অচিন্ত্যকুমার সেনগুপ্ত


Achintya Kumar Sengupta was born on September 19, 1903 in Noakhali, Bangladesh. He moved to India after his father’s death and completed his education there. Though a judge by profession, Sengupta didn’t suppress his love for literature that eventually make him a celebrated author of Bengali literature. He wrote almost for every genre, but became famous mostly for his novels and short stories. Some of his famous novels are ‘Bede’, ‘Kakjyotsna’, ‘Akosmik’, ‘Prachir O Prantor, ‘Je Jai Boluk’, ‘Nobonita’, ‘Prothom Kodom Phul’, etc. Besides, his well-known short stories collections are ‘Tuta Futa’, ‘Eti’, ‘Double Decker’, ‘Sareng’, ‘Kalorokto’, ‘Chasha Bhusha’, etc. and poems are ‘Amra’, ‘Priya O Prithibi’, ‘Purba Paschim’, ‘Neel akash’, etc. He was awarded with the Rabindra Puraskar and Saratchandra Smiriti Award for his contribution to Bengali literature. He passed away on January 29, 1976 in Kolkata.
