Premendra Mitra was one of the renowned contemporary writers in Bengal. He was born in Varanasi, India in 1904. He wrote science fictions, poems, novels, fairytale, horror stories and many others. He directed films along with writing. Some of his famous works are 'Telenapota Abishkar', 'Kuasha', 'Ananya', 'Mahanagar', 'Mahuri kuthite ek raat' and others. He is mostly popular with his cult character 'Ghana Da', a common Bengali mid-aged person who used to share his exciting adventures against the evils. His another character ‘Mamababu’ has also stimulated the minds of Bengali readers through his thrilling expeditions whether be it in ‘Kuhoker Deshe’ or in ‘Dryagoner Nishwas’. He received awards like 'Padma Sree', 'Rabindra Puroshkar' for his valuable contribution to the Bengali as well as Indian literature.
